Dear Kids, Ramadan Mubarak, Happy Pakistan Day and Eid Mubarak!
The month of March this year is doubly special for us as it has brought with it the most blessed month of Ramadan, which is intrinsically related to the creation of Pakistan. You know on 14th August 1947, it was Jumatul Wida, the last Friday of the month of Ramadan, and it was , the Night of Decree, that is, according to the Quran, “better than a thousand months.” (97:4) Lailatul Qadr is the night on which the holy Quran was sent down. “Indeed, it is We Who sent this Quran down on the Night of Glory.” (97:1) It means the creation of Pakistan, the land of the pure, is one of the most fortunate events that have ever happened on earth. That’s why the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is based on the injunctions of the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH). Luckily enough this year, too, we are celebrating the Pakistan Day on 23rd March, in the month of Ramadan, close to Jumatul Wida and Lailatul Qadr.
Rationally speaking, this is the reason why both the ‘Spirit of Ramadan’ and the ‘Spirit of Pakistan’ are intertwined: it is on one hand, a time of reflection, gratitude, and spiritual growth, and on the other it gives us an opportunity to honor the struggle, sacrifices and achievements of our forefathers who dreamed of a separate homeland where they would freely practice the injunctions of Islam, and unitedly work for a strong, prosperous and peaceful nation. Embedded with the Quaid’s principle “Faith, Unity & Discipline”, this month as a whole teaches us the importance of self-discipline, empathy, compassion and cohesion. We fast during the day, do recitation during the night, and eagerly share our blessings with those in need – whether it’s through a kind word, a helping hand, or a small act of generosity – it makes a difference in our lives, and to the benefit of others.
