The Al-Barq Punjab Hockey League was held from November 27 to December 9, 2024, under the arrangements of Okara Garrison, with technical support from the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF). A total of ten teams participated in the event, including two teams from Okara Garrison and eight civilian teams from various districts of Punjab.
The organization of such a high-profile provincial-level hockey championship at Okara Garrison not only reignited interest in sports by inspiring the younger generation and rekindling the community’s passion for hockey but also provided a platform for the Pakistan Hockey Federation to identify and showcase exceptional young talent from Punjab.
The final match of the Al-Barq Punjab Hockey League was played between Vehari Hockey Club and Rana Zaheer Hockey Club Lahore, with Rana Zaheer Hockey Club emerging as the winner. The final was followed by a closing ceremony, where Garrison Commander Okara Garrison, Major General Naik Naam Muhammad Baig, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
During the closing ceremony, the military band’s powerful and stirring music set the tone, while students from Army Public School Okara and Cadet College Okara captivated the audience with their vibrant performances, showcasing creativity and teamwork. To add to the grandeur, cultural performances highlighted the beauty of Pakistani culture, featuring traditional dances from Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Kashmir, and all four provinces.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony to honor and commend the outstanding performances of the players. Garrison Commander Okara praised the successful organization of the league through the collaborative efforts of the Pakistan military and the Pakistan Hockey Federation.
