On December 23, 2024, a high level defense delegation led by Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Director-General Mr. Agil Gurbanov, along with Deputy Minister of Defense, Commander of the Azerbaijan Air Force, Lieutenant General Namig Islamzade called on Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, at Air Headquarters (AHQ), Islamabad.
During the meeting, the CAS shared the recent achievements of the PAF, reflecting his vision of operational excellence in contemporary warfare domains. He reiterated his commitment to further strengthening the existing bilateral ties between the armed forces, with a particular focus on cooperation with the PAF in operational and training domains.
The CAS also underscored the importance of training cooperation, noting that a large contingent of Azeri air and ground crew is currently undergoing training at an operational PAF base. He highlighted that the training program is progressing on schedule, with over 50 percent of the training objectives successfully achieved. He further emphasized that the initiative is expected to conclude within a one-month timeframe, showcasing the PAF’s dedication to enhancing the operational capabilities of the Azerbaijan Air Force.
The visiting dignitaries lauded the historic and exemplary professionalism demonstrated by the personnel of PAF and praised its notable progress in developing a thriving domestic capability in the aviation industry in a short timeframe. The dignitaries expressed satisfaction on the training imparted to 70 aircrew and technicians getting trained in PAF and expressed their desire for enhanced Air Force-to-Air Force collaboration between the two sides. Emphasizing the need to adapt to the evolving landscape of modern warfare, the Azerbaijani military leadership also proposed the establishment of a more comprehensive training regimen focusing on niche and disruptive technologies, as well as cyber and electronic warfare capabilities. Later, the delegation visited the PAF Cyber Command, established at AHQ, where they were briefed on the operational capabilities and ongoing projects of the PAF's modernization drive.
The visit of this high level defense delegation from Azerbaijan to AHQ Islamabad signifies a resolute commitment of both countries to reinforce their military partnership, fostering collaboration and promoting robust relations.
