On September 26, 2024, during his visit to Pakistan, President of Azerbaijan, H. E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, was hosted by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, who briefed him on the combat capabilities and versatile employment options of JF-17 BLOCK-III fighter aircraft. Pursuant to President Aliyev's visit and at the special request of the Government of Azerbaijan, the CAS approved the deployment of a PAF contingent to Baku to participate in the Azerbaijan Defense Exhibition 2024 (ADEX-2024), showcasing the aerial prowess and static display of the Pride of Pakistan: the JF-17 Thunder Block-III. The PAF contingent, comprising operational and maintenance personnel, received a heartfelt welcome upon arrival in Baku. During the deployment, the JF-17 conducted air-to-air refueling from PAF Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft, demonstrating the long-haul capability and reach of the PAF's fighter jet.
President Ilham Aliyev visited the static display of the JF-17 BLOCK-III and later witnessed an enthralling aerial demonstration of the JF-17 Thunder, showcasing the agility and maneuverability of the fighter jet alongside the professional competence of PAF pilots. The JF-17 Thunder Block-III is equipped with an AESA Radar and long-range BVR capabilities as a 4.5 generation multi-role fighter aircraft, capable of undertaking a wide array of combat missions and providing contemporary airpower employment options, thus strengthening the National Security Paradigm of Azerbaijan.
The President of Azerbaijan conveyed his heartfelt wishes and gratitude to the CAS for affording him the opportunity to witness the mesmerizing aerobatics display during ADEX-2024. He expressed that the support extended by the PAF would go a long way in consolidating the existing military cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, fostering closer defense collaboration and strengthening the warm brotherly ties between the two nations. The accomplishment also reflects the vision of the CAS to transform the PAF into a fully indigenized, next-generation Air Force, contributing to regional security while providing opportunities to strengthen international partnerships.
