Pakistan Navy has commissioned its third Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), PNS HUNAIN, at Constanta Port, Romania. Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Admiral Naveed Ashraf, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, whereas Chief of the Defense Staff of Romania, General Gheorghita Vlad, and Chief of the Romanian Navy, Vice Admiral Mihai Panait attended the ceremony as guests of honor.
During the ceremony, CNS Admiral Naveed Ashraf underscored the importance of the project and the enhanced capabilities that PNS HUNAIN brings to the Pakistan Navy's operations. He expressed confidence that the induction of these versatile and adaptive platforms, equipped with cutting-edge weapons and sensors, will significantly boost the Navy's forward presence and operational readiness. This will be particularly evident in Regional Maritime Security Patrols (RMSP) in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). CNS praised the exceptional professionalism and dedication of DAMEN Shipyard and looked forward to future collaborations in delivering advanced technologies to the Pakistan Navy.
The newly commissioned PNS HUNAIN is a multipurpose and highly agile platform with medium-sized tonnage. The ship is a state-of-the-art electronic warfare, anti-ship and, anti-air warfare capable platform with modern self-protection and terminal defense systems. The ship is also capable of embarking multirole helicopters and has the capability to operate independently or as part of a Task Force for enhanced duration to undertake a number of missions while safeguarding Pakistan's maritime interests.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by high-level dignitaries from Pakistan, Romania, and the Netherlands, including members of the Pakistani community in Romania.
