The trip to Okara Garrison commenced at 10 am, buzzing with anticipation and excitement of students. Upon arrival, they were met by the garrison's serene yet disciplined atmosphere. Their first stop was the Martyrs Memorial, where they gathered solemnly to offer prayers and get privy to the sacrifices made by our soldiers while safeguarding the nation. The meticulously planned trip ensured that every moment spent within the garrison walls would be informative and memorable. The visit offered a comprehensive perspective on life within Okara Garrison, from historical insights into the army's past to a glimpse into modern-day military operations.
Soldiers Training
After paying their respects, the students were guided by the Host Battalion (Piffer Wilde's Regiment) towards their training grounds. There, they were presented with a rare opportunity to witness soldiers in action, diligently engaged in rigorous training exercises. The soldiers were divided among various drills, showcasing their exceptional agility, strength and coordinated movements. The exercises were meticulously designed to simulate real-world combat scenarios, equipping the soldiers with the necessary skills and experience to react effectively under pressure. The students observed them navigating challenging obstacle courses, conducting live fire drills and executing tactical manoeuvres with remarkable discipline and precision. After disembarking, the students were presented with a range of military weaponry. They meticulously explained each weapon's specifications, capabilities and operational uses. As the sun climbed its zenith, students were ushered to the Soldiers' Mess for refreshments. The dining hall embodied a unique fusion of tradition and modernity. Next on the agenda was a tour of the soldiers’ barracks. Visiting soldiers' rooms gave students a firsthand glimpse into their daily routines. Wilde's Battalion's Museum emerged as the next highlight of the students' visit. It served as a treasure trove of military history and heritage. Upon entering, they were greeted by a captivating display of artefacts, photographs, and documents chronicling the illustrious past of the Piffer unit and its contributions to various military operations. A knowledgeable officer guided them through the exhibits, providing insightful explanations and captivating anecdotes for each display. The students marvelled at uniforms worn by soldiers from different eras, medals and honors signifying bravery and weapons employed in historical battles. The museum also boasted interactive displays, allowing them to engage with history in a more immersive way. Among the most impactful exhibits was a collection of personal notes penned by soldiers who served in the unit.
