Building Futures: Empowering Pakistan's Youth for Tomorrow

January 2024

The integral constituency of our societal milieu, epitomized by the youthful demographic in Pakistan, assumes a cardinal position in the overarching framework of the nation's developmental trajectory. The realization of substantive outcomes and the maximization of the economic impact necessitate a concerted commitment to cultivating the competencies of the youth through motivational interventions, structured training programs, and judicious incentives. The judicious allocation of resources towards fortifying this pivotal demographic holds the promise of charting a course towards the realization of a more advanced and developed Pakistan in the ensuing years.
In the category of the youthful demographic, Pakistan stands as the world's fifth-largest country, boasting a working-age population exceeding 80 million individuals. However, a prevalent skill gap presents a hurdle in generating employment opportunities for this vast group. By adequately enhancing and developing their skills, we can not only enhance their employability but also empower them to contribute significantly to creativity, innovation, and job satisfaction. Most importantly, such efforts have the potential to mitigate and even eradicate poverty.
In addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by Pakistan's youth in 2024, there is a pressing need for strategic intervention. The convergence of economic struggles, educational deficiencies, and a scarcity of job opportunities calls for a holistic vision. The imperative lies in prioritizing Sustainable Development Goal 4, underscoring the significance of inclusive and quality education for a sizable youth population.
Amidst challenges, the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) stands as a beacon of hope, addressing the developmental needs of Pakistan's youth alongside targeted sectoral advancements. The Ministries of Information Technology and Telecommunication, National Food Security and Research (Agriculture), and Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development are spearheading efforts under SIFC. Motivation, training, and incentives are central to their mission, with a focus on structured and informed approaches to empower and develop the youth. Through programs, research projects, and initiatives, these ministries aim to cultivate a generation of productive and informed citizens for Pakistan's future.
Acknowledging the substantial role of the Pakistan Army in providing a future for the youth of Pakistan necessitates recognizing their significant contributions to education, vocational training, and employment. Various educational initiatives led by the Armed Forces aim to provide quality education and produce competitive and responsible citizens. The Army Public School and College System (APSACS) stands out as the largest contributor, offering uniform, affordable education to over 258,000 students, with 46 percent from non-military backgrounds. Special education schools for children with disabilities, higher education institutes, military and cadet colleges, and technical training centers are among the diverse educational contributions. The Fauji Foundation Education System, Pakistan Navy, and Pakistan Air Force also play pivotal roles in promoting education, offering scholarships, and establishing institutions.
Notably in disadvantaged tribal areas like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, there has been a concerted effort to refurbish existing schools and build new ones. The overarching objective is to ensure accessible education for everyone. An exemplary instance of inclusive education is the Ilm Tolo Da Para (Education for all) initiative, a collaboration between Peshawar Corps and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, illustrating the positive outcomes achievable through visionary and determined efforts.
The Pakistan Army is leading a holistic initiative in integrated districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for youth development, covering education, skills, sports, and inclusivity. Key programs include the Parachinar Education Complex, mobile education services, and the Darra Adam Khel Library, emphasizing accessible education. Skill-focused initiatives like the Computer Lab in Miran Shah and the Construction Technology Training Institute aim at economic prosperity. The Digital Skills Training and DigiSkills programs empower youth for online freelancing, while sports tournaments contribute to unity, showcasing the Army's commitment to a stable and prosperous future beyond security concerns.
As Pakistan stands at a crucial juncture, there is a need for reassessment of existing policies and a renewed commitment to investing in the potential of the youth. By doing so, the nation can uplift its present generation and secure a prosperous and sustainable trajectory for generations to come. The emphasis on economic revival, inclusive education, and aligning educational curricula with job market demands aligns with a forward-thinking vision for the nation.
