Since August 5, 2019 till now, for more than four years, the people of IIOJK have been witnessing an unending and unprecedented round of Indian state-sponsored terrorism. Since then, the Kashmiri nation has been under constant threat, fear, harassment, and humiliation by the oppressive Indian Army. As the Kashmiri nation unanimously rejected this illegal act and strict lockdowns, several arrests and restrictions in all spheres of life immediately followed the unconstitutional abrogation of these articles.
Since 2019, Kashmiri nation across the world observes August 5 as Youm-e-Isthesal-e- Kashmir. On August 5, 2019, India under the right-wing Hindutva-driven premiership of Modi revoked the Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution and deceitfully abrogated the special status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). This act was a clear violation of United Nations resolutions. Articles 370 and 35A were guaranteed by the former Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in January 1950. By this act, IIOJK was given internal autonomy, and the Centre was to deal only with matters of defense, external affairs, and communications.
Since August 5, 2019 till now, for more than four years, the people of IIOJK have been witnessing an unending and unprecedented round of Indian state-sponsored terrorism in IIOJK.
‘Hum le k rahen ge azadi’ (we will take freedom) continues to be the word on the tongue of millions of Kashmiris in IIOJK and worldwide. Amnesty International had begun a campaign, #LetKashmirSpeak, precisely a month after the curfew.1 In a world of extreme connectedness, imagine the misery the Kashmiris had been put into by placing restrictions on communications, the basic need of life.
Since August 5, 2019, many Kashmiris have become victims of pellet shotguns used by the Indian Army. The Indian occupation forces have turned IIOJK into the largest prison on the planet by deploying additional troops and imposing strict restrictions on the media. The human rights situation in IIOJK has seriously deteriorated during the last four years. The people of Kashmir remain subjected to a military siege, while a new temple was hastily erected in IIOJK, inaugurated by Indian Home Minister Amit Shah. The influx of Hindu pilgrims from India to this newly established temple is on the rise.
In pursuing toxic Hindutva ideology, in a document released by the Indian government, it was claimed that more than four million domiciles had been issued to outsiders to settle in IIOJK. Almost 3000 similar certificates were allocated to Gurkhas from Nepal and some from the ignored Valmiki community.
The Modi government has left no stone unturned in trying to change Kashmir's demographic profile and snatch the identity of the Kashmiri nation. In pursuing toxic Hindutva ideology, in a document released by the Indian government, it was claimed that more than four million domiciles had been issued to outsiders to settle in IIOJK. Almost 3000 similar certificates were allocated to Gurkhas from Nepal and some from the ignored Valmiki community.2 This policy resembles the illegal settlement of Israel, when after 1948, Jews from around the world were invited to stay in Palestine. Moreover, the Indian army has illegally seized over 56,000 acres of land belonging to Kashmiris.
Pakistan has provided the Kashmiris with all possible legal and moral support to achieve their legitimate cause. Parliamentarians, journalists, human rights activists, international human rights organizations, and members of the international community have consistently raised their voices against the ongoing serious human rights violations in IIOJK. India has again exposed itself to the world as an aggressor and oppressor.
Pakistan, on its part, will continue to raise the voice of its Kashmiri brothers and sisters, whose eternal sacrifices are still ongoing, and we will provide all possible support for the realization of their legitimate rights. We do not doubt that lasting peace and stability in South Asia can only be achieved through a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict by the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. In pursuit of this aim, across the world, the Pakistani nation stood with the Kashmiri nation, which registered its protest in the shape of rallies, raising voices on print and electronic media while using social media platforms against the Hindutva-backed Modi regime.
