The Brighter Truth: The Undying Spirit of Pakistan and its Defenders

September 2023

September 6 is a day of introspection and reiteration of the pledge that we, as a nation, must keep ensuring the sovereignty and freedom of our motherland over and above ourselves.

Today, it appears that as a nation, we might not fully realize the extent of our freedom and the privileges that come with being citizens of a free country. We have the complete freedom to lead our lives by the tenets of our faith with total impunity and autonomy. It is said that freedom comes with a cost. We, too, have paid enormous sacrifices to win this freedom. The geographical location of our country is a unique one. Since its inception, the country has faced tremendous challenges due to its geostrategic disposition. With a belligerent India on our east, which never accepted Pakistan as a separate country, a troubled Afghanistan, and the former USSR in the northwest, Pakistan had to pay enormous sacrifices to retain her freedom and sovereignty. The Armed Forces of Pakistan have played a colossal role towards this end. September 6 is a day of introspection and reiteration of the pledge that we, as a nation, must keep ensuring the sovereignty and freedom of our motherland over and above ourselves.
September 6 reminds us of the day when our sovereignty was threatened. It was done as a retaliation to stall the intrinsic armed uprising of the hapless Kashmiri people languishing in the illegally annexed Jammu and Kashmir in the face of India’s stubborn stance to deprive them of their legal right to decide for themselves through a plebiscite, as envisaged by the United Nations Security Council. Instead of discussing and conducting peaceful negotiations and arriving at a plausible solution in the light of the United Nations (UN) resolutions, India, being true to its history of establishing territorial hegemony, found it more suitable to bungle up the entire issue by mounting a full-scale war along the entire border. This war continued till September 22 before the two countries accepted a ceasefire under the auspices of the United Nations. Despite its small size and limited resources, Pakistan withstood the test of time at this critical and decisive juncture, but did not budge an inch from its moral and ethical stance to support the Kashmiri brethren.
At this critical historical moment, our gallant soldiers defended the motherland with sweat, toil and blood. Our army defended the areas under attack and ensured that our homes, towns and cities remained unscathed. In the 1965 War, thousands of our soldiers and officers laid their lives, and thousands got wounded, maimed and invalidated for life. In their numerous war accounts, the enemy has acknowledged their gallantry, courage and dedication beyond the call of duty. It is, therefore, incumbent on us, as a proud nation, never to forget their supreme sacrifices to which this country owes its existence. September 6, therefore, is a day of not only paying homage to our heroes who remained dauntless in the face of heavy odds but a day to renew our spirits and collectively vow that we too shall never waiver if our solidarity is threatened or attempted to be undermined.

As a nation, we should strive to understand the vast challenges befalling our country and realistically identify our detractors' nefarious, surreptitious designs. Towards this end, the first and foremost thing is that we should have unswerving confidence and trust in our armed forces. We should understand the challenges and sacrifices our Army is rendering unabatedly to make our territorial borders impregnable alongside national security. There may have been past setbacks, reversals, and stumbles, but our Army, including both soldiers and officers, stood the test of time. Doubtless to say that grave economic challenges are confronting us, but the fact remains that no external enemy can think of undertaking a misadventure on our land. Today, the professional competence of our army is openly acknowledged by not only the world organizations but by other contemporary professional armies as well.
The dedication and commitment displayed by Pakistan Army towards the nation is genuinely awe-inspiring. It is an institution that not only stands ready to defend the country from external threats, but also remains steadfast in its resolve to fight natural calamities that befall the nation. In times when floodwaters ravage the land, leaving communities in despair, Pakistan Army extends its helping hand, providing relief and support to those affected. Their selfless acts of bravery and determination during these trying times showcase their unwavering dedication towards the well-being of their fellow citizens.
Pakistan Army's professional prowess is unparalleled nationally and internationally. Pakistan is a major contributor to UN peacekeeping missions. Whether maintaining peace within the borders or keeping a vigilant eye on the international stage, they have consistently proven their mettle. Their professionalism and commitment are reflected in the numerous successful operations against terrorists and insurgents, preserving the nation's integrity. Their efforts have brought stability and security within the country and garnered accolades and respect from the international community.
Another aspect that often goes unnoticed is the role played by our army in strengthening ties between the civil societies of Pakistan and its ally countries. The army has worked tirelessly to forge closer bonds between Pakistan and allied countries such as Turkey and Azerbaijan. Through various exchange programs and joint military exercises, they have enhanced cooperation and understanding and fostered a sense of camaraderie between these nations. The cultural exchanges, military collaborations, and shared experiences have nurtured a deep bond, transcending geographical boundaries and uniting people through shared values and aspirations.
It is the unwavering commitment of Pakistan Army that has allowed them to build bridges across borders and promote peace and harmony on a global scale. They have become ambassadors of goodwill, showcasing the true essence of the Pakistani nation. By extending their hands in friendship, they have played a pivotal role in strengthening diplomatic ties, enhancing trade relations, and promoting sociocultural exchanges.
Pakistan Army, with its dedication, professionalism, and commitment, serves as a shining example to the rest of the world. Their tireless efforts, both during times of crisis and in times of peace, reflect their firm commitment towards the prosperity and progress of the nation. Their spirit of selflessness and sacrifice continues to inspire generations, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of the people. Pakistan Army, indeed the nation's guardians, embody the values of resilience, unity, and unwavering devotion, making them a beacon of hope and pride for the nation.
