A 7-day Winter Festival was held at Attabad Lake in the Gojal region of Hunza Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan. The sports event included competitions of ice hockey, ice football, ice skating and other local games. A grand cultural show and performances were also a part of the event. Male and female athletes from ten districts of the region took part in the sports competitions.
It was the first winter sports festival organised at the Attabad Lake amid the snowfall. Earlier, unlike this time, winter sports competitions were held in Skardu, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Ghanche, Shigar, Diamer and Astore. The participating teams were selected from each district of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Officials, tourists and a large number of local people also participated in the inaugural ceremony. Athletes, artists, local elders and youth performed various cultural dances on the traditional music. Local artists presented their art in the ceremony while everyone enjoyed a friendly match between the ice hockey teams.
The ice rink was decorated with beautiful lights upon which players performed ice skating. Force Commander Major General Kashif Khalil was the chief guest at the occasion.
