Pakistan and Chinese Navies Carry Out Advanced Joint Drills and Naval Maneuvers in North Arabian Sea
Pakistan Navy hosted the 6th bilateral exercise ‘Sea Guardians-2020’ that was conducted between Pakistan and PLA navies. Chinese flotilla comprising naval platforms/assets along with PLA (Navy) Marines Corps Detachment participated in the exercise.
Deputy Commander of Southern Theatre Command PLA, Vice Admiral Dong Jun graced the occasion of opening and closing ceremonies of the bilateral exercise as the chief guest. Commander Pakistan Fleet, Vice Admiral Asif Khaliq was also present at the occasion.
While addressing the ceremony, Vice Admiral Asif Khaliq welcomed the Chinese officers and personnel, alluding to the evergreen, warm and eternally cordial relations between the two countries in general and navies in particular. While underscoring the importance of immaculate and sound planning during the exercise, the Vice Admiral hoped that this exercise will prove to be another stepping stone in augmenting the interoperability and strategic cooperation between both the navies.
Earlier, Deputy Commander of Southern Theatre Command PLA thanked Pakistan Navy for extending warm hospitality to visiting naval platforms and assets of PLA (Navy). He hoped that this exercise will further enhance the bilateral relationship and cooperation between the two countries and their navies. During the exercise ‘Sea Guardians-2020’, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi also visited PLA (Navy) Flag Ship YINCHUAN. The CNS had a meeting with Deputy Commander PLA Southern Theatre Command where matters of mutual interest came under discussion. He highlighted that “Exercise Sea Guardians is a manifestation of treasured friendship and mutual trust that exists between the two countries and the exercise carried forward our relationship to new heights of glory. The exercise was aimed at not only countering maritime threats together but also solidifying the common resolve of both the navies of ensuring regional peace and security.”
Later, the CNS also interacted with the PLA (Navy) ship’s crew and appreciated their professional competence and morale.
Spanning over nine days Exercise Sea Guardians-2020 was designed to share professional experiences on contemporary and non-traditional threats as well as to enhance bilateral cooperation and interoperability between the two navies. In the exercise, Pakistan Navy and PLA (Navy) Flotilla carried out advance level joint drills and naval maneuvers in North Arabian Sea. The harbour and sea activities of the exercise were also witnessed by senior officials from both navies.
