Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Tunneling Institute of Pakistan (TIP) Islamabad and National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) on July 20, 2022. During the visit, COAS inaugurated state-of-the-art Tunneling Institute, an initiative of Frontier Works Organization (FWO) at Shakarparian, Islamabad. TIP has been founded with the aim to promote tunneling expertise in the country.
TIP will provide a distinctive platform to encompass tunneling education in Pakistan by extending theoretical knowledge through both academia and industry experts. TIP is the sixth such facility in the world, which was completed and operationalized within the planned duration of 10 months.
The components of TIP include live size tunnel models with all allied services, equipment and material display area, classrooms and administrative office, seminar/conference hall, Tunnel Design Support Wing, Survey Centre, Material Testing Lab and Secretariat of Pakistan Tunneling and Trenchless Society (PTTS).
Later, COAS also visited Polio Call Centre at National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC). He expressed the urgency for polio eradication imitative to save the future generations. COAS emphasized the need to take all necessary measures to make Pakistan a polio-free country.
Earlier on arrival, COAS was received by Director General Engineer-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Moazzam Ijaz and Director General FWO, General Kamal Azfar.
