Commitments for Collaborative Regional Maritime Security Made
Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi visited Bahrain and Jordan.
During the visit to Bahrain, the CNS called on various military and naval dignitaries including Commander-in-Chief Bahrain Defence Forces, Commander Bahrain National Guards, Commander Bahrain Coast Guards and Commander Royal Bahrain Naval Force in separate meetings.
During the meetings, discussions on professional matters and bilateral naval collaboration including defence and security cooperation were held. Various avenues of cooperation between the two navies were discussed. Pakistan’s commitment and performance in the fight against terrorism, including Pakistan Navy’s initiative of Regional Maritime Security Patrol (RMSP), was highlighted. The CNS also underlined Pakistan Navy’s efforts for maintaining maritime peace and security.
CNS also called on Commander U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, U.S. 5th Fleet and Combined Maritime Forces, Vice Admiral James Malloy at HQ U.S. NAVCENT Bahrain.
Upon his arrival at U.S. NAVCENT Headquarters, the CNS was warmly received by Vice Admiral James Malloy. In the meeting, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi dilated upon matters of mutual interest including bilateral naval collaboration and initiative of RMSP by Pakistan Navy. He also highlighted the multinational naval exercise AMAN-2019, hosted by Pakistan Navy in Karachi on February 2019. Commander U.S. NAVCENT highly appreciated the professionalism of Pakistan Navy personnel and active role being played by Pakistan Navy for maritime security and stability in the region. He further acknowledged that the regular presence of Pakistan Navy units in critical sea areas of the region has greatly helped in shaping a secure environment for free flow of commercial shipping activities through vital sea lines of communication.
Commander Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 Commodore Darren Garnier of Royal Canadian Navy also called on Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi. The two dignitaries discussed professional matters of mutual interest and security environment in the Indian Ocean Region.
During his visit to Jordan, the CNS met Commander Royal Jordanian Naval Force, Brig Gen Ibrahim Salman Al Naimat and Commander Royal Jordanian Air Force, Major General Yousef A. Al-Hnaity in separate meetings.
During the meeting, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi spoke on matters of mutual interest and naval collaboration. The CNS emphasized upon Pakistan Navy’s focused efforts towards the fight against terrorism, counter piracy operations and RMSP initiative. CNS further discussed avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation between both the navies in the field of training, provision of technical manpower and expertise. Commander Royal Jordanian Naval Force acknowledged the significance of close and strong bilateral naval association in diverse areas between Pakistan Navy and Royal Jordanian Navy.
The CNS also called on Commander Royal Jordanian Air Force, Major General Yousef A. Al-Hnaity. During the meeting, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi dilated upon matters of mutual interest and defence ties. Commander Royal Jordanian Air Force lauded Pakistan Navy’s efforts in promoting peace and security in the maritime domain.
It is expected that the recent visit of Naval Chief will further enhance and expand bilateral relations between the visiting countries and defence collaboration between the Armed Forces.
